Senior Living Options

As we age, it is important to consider where we will live and who will take care of us. There are quite a few senior living options. They vary in cost and may not be available everywhere. So, we each have to choose what fits our situation and budget best. Here is a list of senior living options that we often hear about.

Aging in Place

When a senior or elderly person lives in their own home, this is called aging in place. This is possible if you have caregivers who help you with your activities of daily living. Some people have friends and family that become caregivers. Others hire an in-home care agency, like Home With Help® to take care of the things they can’t do any longer on their own. This way you can be comfortable in your own familiar environment.

Moving in With Kids

Another option is having your kids move in with you or you moving in with your kids. Many people build mother-in-law quarters or what some call Granny Pods on their property. This way you have family close by to help you as you age and can feel at home.

Independent Living Community

Older adults can rent or buy their own units in an independent living community. These communities typically offer meals, housekeeping, laundry, and sometimes transportation. If you can mostly take care of yourself, but like having the help available if needed, this is a great option. You can also hire a caregiver to come to help you with activities of daily living when living in these communities.

Assisted Living

Assisted living residences are similar to independent living communities. However, they offer more assistance for those who need help every day.

Life Plan Communities

Life Plan Communities combine several living arrangements on a single campus. This allows seniors to move from independent living to assisted living to skilled nursing care as they need it.

Nursing Homes

Nursing homes are for people who need 24-hour personal and medical care. They are also referred to as skilled nursing facilities. They offer the highest level of care for seniors and elderly people, outside of the hospital.
